Buffering or freezing
Try these one at a time. After each step, check if it's fixed.
-
Restart everything
Unplug your Fire TV or TV box from the power for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. While it restarts, also restart your modem/router the same way. This clears up most problems.
-
Check your internet speed
Open the Silk browser (Fire TV) or a speed test app and go to fast.com. You need at least 25 Mbps for HD and 50 Mbps for 4K. If it's much lower, the problem is your internet, not the service. Try again at a different time or call your internet provider.
-
Get a stronger connection
If you can, plug your device into the router with an Ethernet cable (Fire TV sticks need Amazon's Ethernet adapter). On Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz network and move the router closer to the TV, or use an HDMI extender so the stick isn't hidden behind the TV.
-
Increase the buffer
In our app, go to Settings → Playback → Buffer size and choose Large. A bigger buffer gives smoother playback, with a second or two more delay when you change channels.
-
Clear the app's cache
Clear the app's cache. Fire TV: Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → our app → Clear cache. Android TV / Google TV: Settings → Apps → our app → Clear cache. (Clear cache, not data, so you don't have to set it up again.)
-
Try our VPN app
Some internet providers slow down streaming traffic at busy times (often evenings). If buffering mostly happens at night, our free VPN app can help by hiding that traffic from your provider. Sign in with your usual username and password.
-
Check if it's just one channel
Try 3 or 4 other channels. If only one channel buffers, that channel may be having a temporary issue on our end. Let us know which one and we'll check it.
🎉 Great, glad that worked!
If it happens again, you know where to find this. Fix another problem or go home.
